Hi there
My name is Roy and I just started say something in Welsh, as I live just across the river severn and visit Wales alot for walking and holidays and meet loads of welsh speaking people and would love to have a conversation with them in their own language.
So out of respect for the Welsh language I have taken the the first steps in making that happen.
Looking forward to all the hard work it’s going to take but in a light hearted way because I want to enjoy the journey.

The magnifying glass symbol up in the top right of the screen/app (both) allows you to search the forum for specifics if you are wondering about something and think it likely to have been asked before.

I thought I’d pop on here and say hello. This is the first part in a process that I hope will result in being able to converse - at least a little – in the language of the country where I was born, live and love. Where (and when) I grew up, there was little focus on the Welsh language and as my family were not existing Welsh speakers, learning was low on the priority list. Now that my daughter is in High School and that I have a role in the sports community that involves all parts of Wales, the time is appropriate to deal with the language gap and scratch an undeniable itch. I look forward to taking those baby steps in here!

Simon, You might be a prime candidate for assisting in a dissertation that is being undertaken in relation to non-Welsh speaking parents sending children to Welsh schooling. I started a thread about it here:
There could be others posting here that might fit the bill too…don’t be shy!

Hello Sean. My daughter is actually going to an English speaking school, but will be studying Welsh throughout high school. Always happy to participate in academic studies though.

Wow, really impressed with the teaching method used to grasp the first sentence in Welsh. I followed the method as you instructed and it went in fairly quickly and stayed there. I am feeling very confident and excited about learning some more. I moved to Wales over a year ago and would like to converse in Welsh with my friends and neighbours. Thank you for getting me on my way

I’m not sure at what point in the Challenges you’ve learned all the structures you need. I’m guessing at least halfway through Level 1? But it would be great for you to start practicing making up sentences with whatever you do know, and by the time you’re ready for the 5 minute challenge, there’ll be no stopping you

O my goodness… A neighbour, Mark told me about this fabulous app… I started yesterday. I was rubbish at French & no better at Spanish at school… It was all the verbs that stressed me out. Welsh seems easier in comparison … although hard to get my tongue around the sounds… I’m loving it. I’m 50, just moved to North Wales & have no plans to EVER move away so thought trying to learn the language would be a terrific way to feel a part of this wonderful place.

For my experience - compared to French, Italian (and I’ve never studied Spanish, but doesn’t seem much different)…Welsh for verbs is the language you’ve always dreamt of! 
Also, the SSiW approach makes learning much smoother anyway, as you may have noticed already!

Pryhawn da, Suzie dw i. I am moving to Wales in April and I’m really looking forward to learning how to speak Welsh so that I can fully intergrate into the community. I found SSI Welsh via the facebook group members of Blaenau Ffestiniog. They are very encouraging and helpful. Ive been trying to learn on my own at home for an hour a day but am pleased to find this site, i think it’s going to help me a lot. Diolch yn fawr!
