  1. How festive are your surroundings?

Not at all, I have put up my 3" Christmas tree though

  1. What in your opinion is the best way to jingle all the way?

On a one horse open sleigh?

  1. To tinsel or not to tinsel?

Probably not unless the tinsel has been in the family for generations, then sling it everywhere

  1. What are you sipping and nibbling by the fire in your wooden lodge in the snow?

Malt Whisky and Hazlenuts.

  1. In what ways is Christmas already making you crazy?

Christmas hasn’t made me any more crazy yet.

  1. Make up your own Friday Five question and answer it…

  • How festive are your surroundings?

We are big decorations house. Not quite lights on the roof, but at present we are definitely the most decorated house in Aberystwyth Town Centre.

  • What in your opinion is the best way to jingle all the way?

Christmas tunes on Spotify whilst drinking a festival beverage.

  • To tinsel or not to tinsel?

Yes. Tinsel big time.

  • What are you sipping and nibbling by the fire in your wooden lodge in the snow?

I am a terrible drinker, what I mean by this is that a close friend bought us a bottle of Jack Daniels last year for Christmas and we’ve still only drunk probably a third of it.
Cheese is almost a Christmas MUST.

  • In what ways is Christmas already making you crazy?

The amount of social events I have committed to is silly! Its only the 7th and I think we have 2 free nights before the 27th!

If you were ever in a school nativity play, what character did you play?

I was the “Little Drummer Boy” in one. I had to mime, but I still class it as my first gig as a percussionist!

I need to see a picture of this … unless this is some sort of Spinal Tapesque mistake and you really meant 3’.

How festive are your surroundings?

They have begun to get festive - my niece helped me do some of the decorating today. They will be all the way festive when my daughter comes to help decorate the tree this weekend.

What in your opinion is the best way to jingle all the way?

I agree with @Y_Ddraig_Las, has to be a one horse open sleigh. Much more boring would be me wearing my jingle bell earrings, which jingle (rather quietly) when I walk.

To tinsel or not to tinsel?

No tinsel. Too messy!

What are you sipping and nibbling by the fire in your wooden lodge in the snow?

Tea and an Italian Christmas bread called panettone. I’m allergic to all those nuts you guys are eating.

In what ways is Christmas already making you crazy?

It’s not. I love Christmastime. Except for maybe all the advertising about buying things for Christmas, because that’s not what it’s about.

Make up your own Friday Five question and answer it…

What is the best thing about Christmas? Having all my family around me and being together.

And I totally agree with @siaronjames about Brenda Lee’s Rocking Around the Christmas Tree!

Only thing to be seen is a log decoration thing. Must add a tree at some stage…

  • What in your opinion is the best way to jingle all the way?

“I believe in Father Christmas” by Greg Lake

  • To tinsel or not to tinsel?

To tinsel, or not to tinsel, that is no question:

Whether 'tis within the mind to suffer

The insults and comments of outrageous neighbours ,

Or to raise arms and carry on regardless

And by opposing, taunt them. To cry — to weep,

No more; and by weep I mean to say a river,

The heart-ache and the thousand unnatural shocks

That flesh is heir to: 'tis a consummation

Devoutly to be rejected. To cry, to weep;

To weep, perchance to sob — ay, there’s the rubbing of the eye:

For in that weep and sob what strength may come,

When we have snuffled our last,

It gives us pause — there’s the thought

That tinsel brings a much great joy.

Apologies:- just had a mock-Shakespeare moment :smirk:

  • What are you sipping and nibbling by the fire in your wooden lodge in the snow?

Hot chocolate and chocolates…

  • In what ways is Christmas already making you crazy?

Mainly that Christ is not at the centre of Christmas.
Because Christ is at the beginning!!

  • Make up your own Friday Five question and answer it…

Name one Christmas food you can never do without and one to put into Room 101.
Christmas Pudding. Brandy sauce.

Da iawn, diolch. Dim problem o gwbl.

1. How festive are your surroundings?

Er, you don’t think that the Santa-shaped toilet-roll-cosies were going a bit over the top do you?

2. What in your opinion is the best way to jingle all the way?

Accept only 50p pieces in your change and keep them in your pockets at all times.

3. To tinsel or not to tinsel?

It depends on how thick the underwear is.

4. What are you sipping and nibbling by the fire in your wooden lodge in the snow?

I suppose it has to be hot punch or mulled wine, and nibbling nuts and some kind of fruit.

5. In what ways is Christmas already making you crazy?

Funnily enough, it hasn’t got to me yet. That job is being more than adequately performed by our illustrious non-rulers.

6. Make up your own Friday Five question and answer it…

If Santa, or the Tooth Fairy, or the Easter Bunny, or The Eyes in the Sky, or the Great Pumpkin could grant you a wish for the Christmas period, what would it be?

Various private health intentions for one set of members of my family, plus other private intentions for another set of members of my family, wishing them to have a smooth passage over potentially challenging times in the next few months.

Sounds rather good - any chance you’d share your recipe?

Not for the faint hearted or the calorie counter. I only make it at Christmas.

Lots of mushrooms, an 800g punnet?

Half a pound of butter.

3 or 4 large cloves of garlic

200 g of soft cheese, philadelphia or substitute.

A lemon, the grated rind and the juice thereof.

medium size onion

ground black pepper, lots of.

Chop the onion finely. Chop the mushroom finely. I use a food processor. Chop the garlic finely.

Melt the butter, add the onion, garlic, mushroom, lemon rind and lemon juice. Cook over a low heat until it’s almost like a paste. Stir regularly otherwise it sticks to the bottom of the pan. The liquid of the mushrooms boils off and is replaced by the lemon juice.

Remove from the heat and leave it to cool. Add quite a lot of black pepper and mix thoroughly. Add, and mix thoroughly, by spoonfuls, the soft cheese.

Store in the fridge.

Eat with good bread, oatcakes, on toast.

Diolch yn fawr - I’m going to try that this year! We usually do a mushroom roast alongside the turkey, but the turkey is quite enough really. Only, I do miss the mushroomy taste - very wintery indeed. :mushroom:

Sounds delicious; I will be trying this at some point of the festivities!

@Gog, @cat-1, I’m really not a good cook. My husband does 90% of the cooking in the household. But I do like this at Christmas, and I hope you do too.

Not much, yet. We are planning to go out to the farm tomorrow (it will be much warmer!) to find and cut down our (cedar) Christmas tree.

2. What in your opinion is the best way to jingle all the way?
Singing.

3. To tinsel or not to tinsel?
Not, any more. I still have one small package of lead foil tinsel (much nicer appearance than the plastic stuff you get these days) but we don’t use it any more, because it is also fragile, and we don’t want a cat to eat some of it.

4. What are you sipping and nibbling by the fire in your wooden lodge in the snow?
Something warm - cider, tea, etc. - and (home-made) cookies. (Biscuits to you in the UK.)

5. In what ways is Christmas already making you crazy?
Trying not to let it.

6. Make up your own Friday Five question and answer it…
What will you have for Christmas Dinner? . . Shrimp Jambalaya! (In recent years this has become traditional for us on December 25, since we have turkey in November for Thanksgiving.)
