aha, thanks. re-jigged the jiggy, and worked. it seems I just have to keep moving the screen every now and then to stop the phone locking or then it stops and have to re-start. but easy work-around.

It stops the download when the phone locks?

It appears so. When the time comes I guess I will just turn off auto-lock and have a download binge.
