Hello everyone

Cymrodorion Quiz Night has been well publicised elsewhere, but please note the venue is Barry Football Club, Jenner Park (not as originally advertised in their programme card). Next Tuesday, 17 May at 7.30pm
“Agored i bawb! Gwobrau anhygoel! Clwb Peldroed y Barri, Parc Jenner (CF62 9BG) Nos Fawrth Mai 17eg am 7.30yh.”

Maybe see some of you in the YMCA Hub later today some time between 1.30 and 3.30?
Please note this will be the last Hub meeting until September - outings instead during the summer!

Saturday Morning Cinema!

Don’t miss Gadael Lenin in the Caffi Cymraeg this Saturday - 21st May. It’s popcorn time, so come prepared to enjoy. The film starts around 10am in the usual Philip John room upstairs in Barry Library. It’s a light comedy about an art school trip.
GADAEL LENIN
Halfway through a train ride from Wales to Russia, the car carrying the teacher chaperones for an art school field trip is separated from the one that the students are on, leaving the teenagers to fend for themselves once they arrive in St. Petersburg. As the teachers attempt to put aside their differences and hitchhike their way to the Russian capital, the impressionable young students embark on a series of adventures that will change their lives forever.
Initial release: 1993
Director: Endaf Emlyn

Hello everyone,

Here’s the summer programme, as much as I know! Please note, due to holidays, family commitments and a funeral, the outing to Cosmeston will not go ahead on 9th June. But please see the plans for July, below.

Saturday mornings 10-12am in Barry Library
Sarian’s Caffi Cymraeg will continue throughout the summer, including Eisteddfod Week in August.

Nos Lun at the Palmerston Centre
Everything continues as normal in June, with a special extravaganza to end the term on 27 June

Cylch Darllen
Our reading circle continues until 11 July. We have started reading Fel Aderyn by Manon Steffan Ross.
All are welcome and the book is loaned at no charge from Barry Library.
6-7pm Monday nights at the Palmerston Centre

Cylch Siarad
We have had to cancel the outing on Thursday 9 June.
For July, it was suggested we organise a Saturday train trip to the Hywel Dda Centre just outside Carmarthen.
This will only go ahead if people are available to come.
Please contact me soon if you are interested, and we’ll arrange a tour guide.

Have a great summer!

Judy

Barry library is being ‘upgraded’ for a couple of weeks so there is no Caffi Cymraeg during that time. Next session with Sarian is on Saturday 6th August.

Equinox and time to celebrate the passing of summer! Here’s some of what we’ve been up to. In July we had a tour of the Hywel Dda Centre in Hendy Gwyn ar Daf. Here’s the magnificent sundial.

In August we went in ones and twos to the National Eisteddfod and met up with SSIW friends.

We’re now doing a consultation on the meet-ups (Cylch Siarad) to see what people want to do this year. The academic year starts next week, so the Cylch Darllen and other activities will restart on Monday evening.

Hi everyone,

I’ve had technical problems, but all sorted now. The main thing is that we are going to keep to Thursdays once a month for the Cylch Siarad, but change to mornings 10.30 to 11.30 on the third Thursday. The first one will not be until Thursday morning, 17th November and we’ll meet for that one in the Hub as usual.

In the meantime, we are doing well with smaller meet-ups and using this as an opportunity to sample different locations. It is difficult to find somewhere quiet enough, with parking and no stairs, but we do want to make it as accessible as possible to everyone. Modern coffee shops have the bang, bang bang on the counter and piped music as well as hubbub to contend with. At least the YMCA Hub only has Bro Radio piped in over our heads! Where do other groups meet, I wonder?

Lots of good ideas for the coming year. The main problem towards the end of last term/haf was success in attracting first language people to some events, but then not sufficient dysgwyr turning up to benefit. I didn’t see that one coming!

Hai ffrindiau,
Clocks back this weekend, and suddenly the autumn schedule has really kicked in.

Monday 31st October - Nos Lun, Palmerston in full swing.
Come and sing at 7pm, or there are other weekly activities.
The weekly Cylch Darllen is 6-7pm and we are finishing Fel Aderyn. I hope to be bringing a boxful of the new novel - Veritas by Mari Lisa. All levels welcome to come and read out loud.
The monthly Clwb Llyfrau is at 7.30pm with Luned Whelan. This is for more prolific readers, discussing a novel a month. This month’s choice of novel to discuss is Pam? by Dana Edwards, published 2016. A student dies. What effect will it have on his friends over the next decade?
Tuesday 1st November - Crwydro with Ruth (Valeways) 10am meet outside Barry Island Railway station for a stroll.

Thursday 3rd November - 10-11am Foxy’s Penarth for a coffee and chat. If you don’t intend to come to Foxy’s, why not arrange to meet up with a friend somewhere else for a cuppa? Another day of the week? Someone from your class? Try meeting someone different each month? It’s surprising what progress you make just by practising.

Saturday 5th November - Sadwrn Siarad at Palmerston

Monday 7 November - Merched y Wawr meets at 2.15pm in the Tabernacl Vestry King Square. On the programme, Rhodri Jones. This is the first of the winter month’s timetable, meeting on a Monday afternoon.

Friday 11th November - 8pm Elin Fflur and Iwan Huws are the guests for the latest of the Gigs Bach y Fro at the Park, Park Crescent. Tickets £10, email or phone to reserve - ffion@menterbromorgannwg.cymru / 029 20689888

I am guessing that Cymrodorion will meet on the third Tuesday evening, 15th November, but have no details as yet.

17 November Cylch Siarad at the Hub - to be discussed.

The Caffi Cymraeg (upstairs in Barry Library) is back to strength after the summer lull, and meeting every Saturday morning 10-12 with Sarian. Groups also meet in Penarth, Cowbridge and Llantwit Major.

Ruth is leading a two-boot walk on Wednesday 23 November starting from Cogan, and a three-booter on 27th November, starting from Llanblethian. Please see the Valeways website for details.

Please contact me for further details of anything above, or if you have something that might be of interest to people learning Welsh.

Thanks, Judy
