Eisteddfod AmGen - the alternative National Eisteddfod!

With this year’s National Eisteddfod in Ceredigion having to be postponed, the Eisteddfod committee was determined that SOMETHING should happen and here is the first news:

Presenting AmGen
Over the past few weeks, we’ve been looking at new and different ways of working, and today, we can announce details of our exciting new project. Eisteddfod AmGen starts next week, providing a taste of the Eisteddfod for everyone, but in a different and alternative way. AmGen.
Eisteddfod AmGen will be held during the first week of August, and we’ll have more information before long. In the meantime, we’ll be hosting at least one AmGen activity every day, using a wide range of platforms, and working closely with the traditional press and media to offer all kinds of content for people of all ages.
From workshops offering a taste of unique Welsh arts such as cynghanedd and cerdd dant, to weekly scientific experiments for children, and a chance to enjoy iconic lectures from recent years, live music sets and activities for learners, AmGen’s weekly programme will feature the same eclectic mix as a visit to the Maes.

Local activities
AmGen is a national project, but we’re working with local communities to provide activities for the areas hosting the Eisteddfod over the next two years. Eisteddfod choir rehearsals will resume soon, and members of the Cymanfa choir will be able to come together (virtually) on a Sunday afternoon to enjoy a few hymns. Other activities are being planned, with details published every week.

Get involved
We’ll be working with a range of partners to provide content, with some larger events broadcast from time to time. The aim is to collate everything to be published on YouTube and the Eisteddfod website, so people can catch up with content at a convenient time.
We’ll publish the programme every Friday online and across our social media, with details of all platforms and how to watch.
We’ll also be working with Heno and Prynhawn Da, as well as papers such as Yr Herald Cymraeg. By using different platforms, including the traditional press and media, we hope that AmGen will be accessible to as many people as possible, so that everyone can enjoy a taste of Eisteddfod AmGen over the summer.

Get in touch!
Let us know if you have any ideas or suggestions for items to be included as part of AmGen. Get in touch by emailing gwyb@eisteddfod.org.uk. In the meantime, keep healthy and safe, and we hope you enjoy AmGen.

Is AmGen free?
Yes. All the AmGen content is available free of charge. However, we would very much welcome a donation to support the work. Click here to donate through the Just Giving website, or send us an email, gwyb@eisteddfod.org.uk, for details on how to contribute to our work locally and nationally on a regular basis. Thank you.
