I’ve just found there are a few books by Lara Talens on Amazon for the Kindle for a couple of pounds and some that are free. And free is always good. I’ve just downloaded a short story Una vida de color chicle for free. I’m reading it on my laptop and there is a vocabulary list at the end. Where these words are in the text a mouse click gets you to the definition and a mouse click brings you back.

I highly recommend reading proper books with really good storylines rather than easy readers, which feel more like hard work than enjoyable, as reading should be. Books I read as a teenager work really well. Some books that have been great for my French that I hope to get in Spanish and Welsh: Harry Potter, His Dark Materials trilogy, Alex Rider series, Bridget Jones’ Diary (particularly good for informal speech).

I think this is a very important point - re-reading a favourite book in a new language gives you a much better chance at working out bits you’re not sure of…
