Were we supposed to have completed a questionnaire and, if so, am I one of the defaulters?

Dim swĂȘde blwyddyn hwn!. I didn’t mention them before because of the challenge of the circumflex accent. I’ve worked it out now - hold down Alt and type 136.

Yes similar on iPad, just stay on letter, to get options!

Rwden is an alternative which I’ve heard in the north. I’ve had a great crop of potatoes this year.

Thanks, Karen. I’ve just tried and it works on my Android tablet too. I never knew that before!

Dinas - Rwden is the correct word according to my Geiriadur Mawr, but it wouldn’t fit into the song very well!

Cool! :sunglasses:x

Thanks for reminding me of the Alt + numeric keypad method. Used to use that a lot for accents until I discovered “allchars” which was easier to use (especially on laptops without a separate numeric keypad). But it doesn’t work on modern Windows systems, plus it didn’t support Y- and W-circumflex; neither does the ALT method work for those, at least not in the general case, although according to this: http://symbolcodes.tlt.psu.edu/bylanguage/welsh.html
it does work in MS Word.
(Here is another list of ALT codes: http://usefulshortcuts.com/alt-codes/accents-alt-codes.php?showcomments=1#comments )

One can in theory change your keyboard layout on a PC by installing the appropriate software from Microsoft, but that always seemed like overkill and never appealed to me (worth it if you are writing a lot of Welsh I guess).

Then there is a piece of software from Bangor that’s supposed to help, but I could never get it to work.

For casual use at least, something like http://www.lexilogos.com/keyboard/welsh.htm
or
http://welsh.typeit.org
seems as good an approach as any.

EDIT: I referred to the program from Bangor: it was To Bach I was talking about. I was probably only trying on Windows XP before - Just tried it on Windows 7, and it works fine.
(Apparently works on Vista and W8 as well).

Not only circumflex, but all the diacritics you might need for Welsh, plus French, and tilde for Spanish. (Doesn’t have the upside-down question mark I don’t think, but there is an ALT key for that. (ALT 0191 or ALT 168)

Not at the moment, I’m afraid - it’s shaping up to be a fairly busy summer for us, so by the time the autumn rolls around, we may well be fit for nothing more than sitting down for a while

Many thanks Aran - I’ve no doubt that you will qualify for a well earned rest.
