Don’t forget, pawb - as if you would! :slightly_smiling_face: - this week’s meetups are following the new pattern (this is a bit of an experiment, so feedback/comments/suggestions still helpful)

  • Wednesday morning, 15 May from 10:30am in the King’s Arms, Holywell Street
  • Wednesday evening 15 May 8.30pm in James Street Tavern , James St., East Oxford (but best to check first with @s-coates1 on this one)
  • Friday morning, 17 May from 10:30am in CafĂ© Bap, Abingdon Rd

Hwyl, John

PS Meetup details are also circulated by email for those of us who don’t (or don’t very often) use the SSiW forum. If you’d like to be added to the circulation list, do let me know (you could send me your email address via a PM, if you prefer, or I can PM you with mine).

Are we sure enough about this yet to ask @Deborah-SSi to put it in the newsletter?

And this has just been posted on Cymdeithas Dafydd ap Gwilym’s Facebook page - last year’s Eisteddfod in The Mitre was fun - if you’re interested in attending this year’s let me know if and I’ll clear it with them - there shouldn’t be any problem, but probably best to make sure :slightly_smiling_face: :

The DAFYDD’S ANNUAL EISTEDDFOD will be held on Saturday the 18th of May (3rd Week) at 19:00 in Jesus College (Harold Wilson Room) moving to the college bar after. Everyone welcome! The event is a lot of fun and will be rather informal. Live competitions will also take place (details below) as well as the ceremony to crown and chair the winners of the literary competition -for the secondary schools of Wales. Come one and all to take part or to enjoy and socialise!

ADJUDICATORS: Iwan Rhys and Manon Awst

COMPETITIONS:
Open solo poetry or monologue
Open singing solo
Public speaking comPetition (subject TBC)
Opne solo instrumental

A piano will be available

If you are interested in competing, please drop me a message or email me at math.roberts@lincoln.ox.ac.uk in order to have an idea of numbers, etc. You are also welcome to offer ideas of other competitions! More info to come later in the week!

Thanks to @johnwilliams_6, @Betterlatethan and Clive for welcoming me to the group at the King’s Arms this morning. Good to meet you all. I feel encouraged to make more of an effort with my Welsh. Hope to see you now & then at future meetups, work allowing.

Hi @chris-roberts,
It was great to meet and chat with you. I could understand pretty much everything you said, and that is so encouraging. I hope to see you again soon.
Sue

Hi Chris - as Sue says, it was great to meet you and we’ll certainly be looking forward to seeing you at one of our meetups again soon

Please come to our annual Welsh garden party lunch, Sat 8 June, from noon onwards, at 45 Sunningwell. One language or both: it’s an interest in Welsh culture that matters! Or Irish (we’ll have an Irish speaker with us too). Bring and share. RSVP if poss (if you haven’t replied already) and for more details, incl travel directions. All welcome .

I have a poorly Arthur! I did consider dragging him with me, but maybe you lot don’t want to be ill!
I keep forgetting that parenting is basically a full time job with permanent ‘on-call’ status, and only limited access to fairy dust! :woman_mage:
At least the other two spoke Welsh to me this morning, although a fair amount of it seemed to revolve around Pikachu

Sorry to miss you all again - try again wythnos nesaf!!

I am planning to go to The Dafydd’s Eisteddfod and sing a song, but I’m in need of a pianist! Is anyone here a) planning on attending, and b) willing to accompany me (it’s a super easy part)?

I can’t make it unfortunately as I’ll be in London, but @RichardBuck might be going. I’m sure someone’ll volunteer to accompany you there, though, as The Dafydd has several good pianists in its ranks.
Pob lwc gyda’r gñn! :slightly_smiling_face:

Sorry to miss you yet again, @cat-1. I hope to be there next Friday (24th) but I can’t manage Wednesday 22nd because I have a shop meeting. I can’t come at all the following week, but should be OK for the week after.

Hope you can make it
