Problems with Soundcloud

Well I have got Soundcloud on my Mac book now ( Not sure what that means) but how do I use it to record my voice?? Do I need to do something on my Mac book? if anyone can explain it imagine you are explaining it to a dinosaur with absolutely no idea what any technical expression beyond 'switch on and off 'means

Here are the basic steps:

  1. Set up a SoundCloud account - which you’ve done!
  2. Record your voice using some kind of simple voice recording software. Most devices have something built in, and it looks like Macs have something called Voice Memo. You just need to record yourself and save the file where you can find it again.
  3. Open up SoundCloud and look for the ‘Upload’ button
  4. Click on the ‘Upload’ and point it at the voice file you recorded.
  5. Still in SoundCloud, find ‘Share’ and copy the URL (link to the file) that it gives you
  6. Paste that into the forum, in the thread indicated in the email with your weekly tasks

thank you Dee . I will give that a go.

Ha - well I have found that I have ‘voice memo’ on my phone (who knew!) and surprised myself that I can get it saved into a document wallet on my phone and my Mac book and even upload it to Soundcloud - but then I think the task has overwhelmed me. I can find that I should be able to ‘share’ but I cannot make it respond when I press the share button. Sorry to be so thick but is there something else I need to type in anywhere?

do I need to have an account with twitter, facebook or Tumblr? I don’t

A reminder to all the technically despairing that if all else fails, I’m happy to hear your words, sentences, questions and answers via Slack, Skype or even over the phone! No-one will be left out just because of technology - just drop me a line if necessary.

Are you using the app version of SoundCloud? Some people have found that the web version gives you easier options. Try opening a browser on your Mac and going to soundcloud.com there. Log in with your SoundCloud account details and you should see something similar to the app version, but not exactly the same. Try the ‘Share’ button there and see if it gives you the link to copy for the forum.

No, just the SoundCloud account is fine for this

no I tried going to Soundcloud.com but it doesn’t seem to do anything when I get to the SHARE button. It gives me an option to reset something.I can email it I guess to Bronwen??

When you’re in SoundCloud on the website, can you play your voice file? Is it uploaded?

sorry for delay in reply . Day job getting in the way. Yes I appear to have uploaded it and it plays.

I recorded one word as instructed this week and it was successful but there is a very loud annoying track playing that I have to keep pausing the moment I’ve finished. I’m not following or liking any stations but I’m beginning to think that Soundcloud is not for me.

I don’t know why it seems to do that for people - I agree that it’s annoying!

Sometime in the fairly recent past, I set up a SoundCloud account. This week I “fire it up” per instructions and get a page full of album covers. The site won’t upload. The Upload tag (and all the others) merely indicate that I have no followers.

PLEASE, can someone just tell me how I upload a sentence? Just uploading it from my desktop computer using Microsoft?

Are you going to soundcloud.com in a browser, or in a SoundCloud app? It seems to give you more options if you’re in a browser.

Also, have you logged into Sound Cloud? I’m pretty sure I don’t have any followers, but the Upload option still gives me a screen asking me to drag or search for the files I want to upload. I then go to the sound file that I created and saved, click on that and upload it into SoundCloud.

Have you read the help in How to set up and record to an account in SoundCloud ?

Hi @RobMorgan, I’ve only just noticed your reply to my reply. I didn’t mean anything was wrong, just that we’re all learners and none of us are perfect (yet). Onwards and upwards, we’ll get there eventually.

I’m using my desktop computer and have logged into SoundCloud. I know I’m in my account because there’s a tab with my name on it.

I’ve tried the Help link you suggest, but I’m not using an iOS device so it doesn’t help me. I’ve tried hitting the Upload a File link and get a list of my files–also of no help, as there doesn’t seem to have one for the one-word recording I made.

So I’m still very stuck! How do I record a sentence in Welsh onto SoundCloud?

Hi @nancy,

I use SoundCloud on my desktop computer as well, so we should be able to sort this out by going through step by step.

When you open SoundCloud, do you see this menu bar at the top with the Upload option?

image

When you click on that Upload link, do you get this screen to select your recorded file?

From that screen, I click on ‘or choose files to upload’ and find the recording of my voice.
It then gets uploaded to SoundCloud giving the following options:

I usually set it to ‘private’, then click on the ‘Save’ button below that image.
SoundCloud then gives me the link to share my file:

If you’re getting anything different from those steps @nancy, can you take a screenshot and post it here so we can try to help further?

We’ve almost got it!

I followed all the steps into my file, which for some reason is a recording of Challenge 1. Now how do I record new material?

I appreciate your patience!

,

Sorry @nancy, I’ve only just seen this.

To record new material, you need to use some kind of voice recording software - there’s usually something basic free with your device - save the file, then go into SoundCloud, click on Upload, and find your saved file.

Yes, I finally figured that out. Thanks.
