Spanish music

@Deborah-SSi I love the Supernatural album by Santana! It’s a favourite in our household. My mum brought the album for my dad when it first came out. There are so many good songs on there. I always enjoyed the energy of ‘Migra’.

I’m a big Santana fan too - have been for years! And I was lucky to see the band playing live once when I was living in Australia and they toured. Fantastic concert!

Today I’ve discovered the amazing Lhasa de Sela, beautiful songs and gorgeous voice. Many of the youtube videos have translations too. Sadly she died very young, leaving behind great music.

I’ve just listened to the first couple of minutes and I have to agree with you. It’s absolutely beautiful Spanish guitar music!

¡Muchas gracias @sofum!

My sisters best friend in high school was a Chilean girl who’s parents were personal friends of President Allende and involved in left wing politics, so when the Fascist dictator Pinochet took over they ended up here in Cardiff as refugees.
She introduced us to Chilean music like the singer and guitarist Victor Jara who was tortured and murdered by the regime. We used to go to concerts by exiled musicians like Inti-Illemani and Quilapayún

  • lyrics are in the transcript and you can use the auto translate English captions if (like me) you can’t quite follow all of the Spanish. I’ve had a soft spot for Andean folk music ever since those amazing concerts

I know what you mean! Inti-Illimani came to Perth in Australia when I was living there. The official concerts were very expensive, but they did a special cheaper one for the Chilean migrants living there and I was lucky enough to be friends with some Chileans so I got to go too. When they played the deeper sounding panpipes the floorboards were vibrating! It was magical!

Do you go to the festival in memory of Victor Jara which takes place in Machynlleth each year? I’ve been once and it was a great experience. http://www.elsuenoexiste.com/
