The SSiW Annual Party 2018 - June 2nd - JOIN THE HANGOUT!

Sorry to disappoint you, but not this year

I was hoping Bethan Gwanas for a minute, I still havenā€™t met her.

I think I know who it is though. I follow her two daughters on twitter.

Edited to add ā€¦ I lied. I follow Miriam but not Greta.

It would be great to have Bethan along, but a bit far to invite her to Caerfyrddin. Perhaps when weā€™re back in the north next year?

She lives a whole lot closer than I do and Iā€™m making the effort. :joy:

Dog farmed out to the parents, hotel sorted and party booked. Looking forward to it

Hi everyone! Iā€™d be up for it - I understand this is an evening meal buffet and party (cost: Ā£20), with staying over for the night (@margaretnock is your offer still available? I live in Bristol and would be coming down by train to Carmarthen) - alternatively, I could book a bed/room somewhere with other people, which would be close to the venue / or with people who have a convenient means of transportation, anyone?
How are we getting on about the plans for a Sunday daytime adventure - @aran you mentioned Parc Dinefwr, @HuwJones you talked about Castell Careg Cennen & Gardd Fotaneg Genedlaethol Cymru, Llanarthneyā€¦
Just so that I have a rough idea of beginning/ending times to see if I can make it:)
Thanks in advance!

Umm, I donā€™t think I didā€¦ Iā€™ve actually never heard of it, so it would have been an idiot savant kind of moment if I didā€¦

I think that might have been Iestyn ā€¦ or possibly me  I know weā€™ve discussed the idea.

Would people generally prefer to do something before the party on the Saturday, or afterwards on the Sunday, or should we make suggestions for both days and see who can make what?

Iā€™m thinking perhaps meet up in Carmarthen itself on the Saturday for a bit of pre-party socialising, then somewhere like Parc Dinefwr on the Sunday. That would involve a bit of sorting out of transport though, as those coming by train or bus would need lifts.

Offer still stands. If youā€™re coming by train to Carmarthen Iā€™d meet you at the party and bring you to my home at the end of the evening. Iā€™ll be at church in the morning so any lift in the morning might need the kind offices of my husband or @ChrisLeaman. Let me know, one way or the other, in case others would like the room.

Just booked my ticket now. The first parti penblwydd SSiW Iā€™ve been able to go to this is, and Iā€™m really looking forward to it!

For us personally, we canā€™t yet promise anything with regards to activities on the Saturday, or the Sunday. We have a three hour plus journey there and back and are leaving the children with family overnight. We are aiming to get to the venue bright and early on the Saturday and will be around on the Sunday morning for breakfast/coffee. But otherwise will have to play it by ear.

I have booked for the party, and have been looking at transport options first, from where I live between Brum and Stourbridge/Wolverhampton.

Ā£66 return from New Street if I book soon. National Express would entail my staying two nights, as no coach leaves before 3pm for the 4-5hr journeyā€¦

Someone suggested I look at Megabus, so thatā€™s my next taskā€¦

I am thinking of asking a friend from our Irish class if heā€™d come along for the jaunt and Iā€™d pay his petrol and an overnight, but itā€™s a delicate negotiationā€¦

I will be in Carmarthen all day on the Saturday so would welcome a get together of some sort during the day. I wonā€™t be able to do anything on the Sunday.

Sorry, Iā€™ve probably missed this info, but what time does the party start. Iā€™m looking at my transport options. Many thanks,

The party will start around 6.30 to 7, with food being served around 7.30 ā€¦ at least thatā€™s the current plan

@Deborah-SSi, the booking site says itā€™s from 6.30 to 7.30, but Iā€™m assuming we can ignore the second bit?

Er yes, Iestyn set it up and I presume he had to do it like that, for some reason. Weā€™d hardly have our food on our plates in that short space of time

All useful clarifications! Is it a sit-down meal, or a buffetā€¦ Can one enter the venue early or better to hang around elsewhere till the timeā€¦ I have still only found train that will get me there early enough from here. Coach travel too late leaving Brum. If I catch the coach I would be making a two-nighter of it!

The party will be a buffet. In the past, weā€™ve usually said doors open from about 6.30ish for those arriving at the town early - thereā€™s usually a bar. Then the party starts officially about 7pm with buffet served at 7.30. If you arrive much earlier than then and fancy socialising rather than staying at your hotel, then this thread is the best place to find someone who may be looking to doing the same and would like to meet up. Hope this helps.
