Welsh Gigs - DATES AND LOCATIONS! 🎸

#177

Since Catrin has promoted this thread in the weekly email, now would probably be a good moment to introduce a couple of great resources from Y Selar, the music magazine published on a slightly irregular basis with the assistance of the Welsh Books Council.

Firstly, there’s a gig calendar at https://selar.cymru/gigs/ - It’s quite comprehensive in that it covers a wide range of genres, not just the rock/pop that tends to dominate the magazine itself.

But even better than that, the same calendar is available to add to your own device (or even to Microsoft Outlook) so you’ll never miss the opportunity to experience some live Welsh music. The instructions are at https://selar.cymru/gigs-tanysgrifio/ .

do you know if the magazine gets printed? I’ve seen it on issu or whatever, but would love to by copies and back issues if they are available…
Diolch!

You can’t buy copies because it’s free!
It’s distributed to Welsh language bookshops and record shops and via the Menter Iaith movement. I’m not sure how you’d go about getting hold of a printed copy outside of Wales, though. :frowning:

Ahh Diolch Rob. I am living in Cardiff now so will keep an eye out in the shops etc. I’ll try tweeting them to see if they will sort me out with some back issues too!

I went to Dydd Miwsig Cymru in Ty Pawb in Wrecsam. Really enjoyed all the bands. Adwaith were excellent but my favourites of the evening were Chroma - what a drummer!!

There are so many Welsh Language events happening right now and I’m keen to go to as many as possible but don’t always have company.

There is a new group on the MEETUP application which is free to join and is aimed at all of South Wales. Anyone is welcome to put up events they’ve seen to find company, or just to advertise for others. Its simple to track events and attendees in this app/website

https://www.meetup.com/Defnyddiwch-eich-Cymraeg-Use-your-Welsh/ #Meetup #Cardiff via @Meetup

If this is sucessful then I will also create one for North Wales as I’m there regularly.

If anyone is in Coventry next weekend (28/29 August), Coventry’s only Welsh male voice choir Côr Cymraeg Coventry are singing at a couple of little outdoor events as part of the City of Culture. Please message me for details if you’re interested, there are lots of other performers both days so it should be good fun.

Thanks!
Andy
