Welsh-speaking NHS patients ‘put at risk’ by language barrier

It’s been worth al that effort!

I wonder if they’ve thought about hiring interpretators then who can speak Welsh to the patient, it’s better to use Welsh speaking health professionals but it’s better than nothing. Makes me think. I often see volunteer befrienders and I wonder how many are bilingual.

One of my GPs.

This has been the classic refutation of the glib “but you all speak English, why do you need Welsh services?” argument for many years. Nice to see it start to get some traction in the mainstream press.

The amount of ridicule the new Welsh standards were met with was very disappointing. I remember one senior saying to me “this would mean they’d be entitled to ask for an interpreter, but they can speak English!”.
