Helo, pawb. I’m an English writer and film-maker living on the edge of the Preselis. Shortly after moving here, just over 20 years ago, I joined a lovely, Welsh language class with about five other people. I’d never believed I was capable of even understanding Cymraeg let alone speaking it. Our teacher wasn’t a native speaker but she was incredibly enthusiastic. She not only set me off to a great start, but she gave me a love of the subject that’s lasted even though my commitment to learning it has fluctuated - a lot! Since then I’ve taken a number of other Welsh classes, read some of Gomer’s learner’s books in Welsh, tried the inimitable Clwb Malu Cachu, joined an amazing Welsh choir and generally fallen into the trap of thinking I knew enough to get by. But I don’t. It would be so good to be able to express myself fluently and elgantly in Welsh, and better still, to make jokes. But I keep getting my mutations mangled and my 'eu’s vaped. So here I am again :}.
