The "To Bach" utility can also be used for Spanish

Those who learn Welsh and use MS Windows may probably be aware of the handy program “To Bach” by Interceptor Solutions for typing the letters that need circumflexes (or “to bach”) in Welsh.

It also supports acute and grave accents, cedilla and tilde ( ñ and Ñ).

I recently put up a posting talking about how I had modified my copy of the configuration file to add support for Scandinavian characters. That is here:

The "To Bach" utility by Interceptor Solutions is not just for Welsh.... ...that is to say, it can also produce things like umlauts, acute accents, grave accents, and a few other things. So whereas for ŵ you press AltGr and "w" at the same time, for some of these other characters, you press what they refer to as a "modifier". For acute accent, the modifier is "/" (slash). For grave accent, it's \ (backslash). So to get é you press AltGr and / at the same time, and then press "e". To get è …

Re: To Bach again: I have now worked out the changes needed (or one way of doing it), for upside down ! and ? i.e. ¡ and ¿ for Spanish For ¡ add the following to the configuration file: 49;0;0161;0161; That uses a modifier key of 0, i.e. no modifier key, so to get ¡ press ALTGr and “!” together (actually the “1” key - you don’t need the shift) I hoped I could get away with using no modifier for ¿ but doing that broke the acute accent, which uses the /? key as the modifier, so instead, I a…

It’s all a bit fiddly, but “doable”. Even if you don’t need the Scandinavian stuff please have a look at the relevant posting, as it gives some details about the configuration file that one needs to change. (Hint: always take a safety copy of the file before changing it, and restart To Bach after changing it).
