Thanks Rob. Do you know if these are for the north or the south?
Also, are they commonly used?

Diolch yn fawr

I can#t be certain about that, but I’m sure they will be understood by native Welsh speakers anywhere in Wales. They are common everyday phrases.

Thank you Rob

I like this list very much. Thank you Rob.

Diolch yn fawr Rob!

Very helpful. Diolch!

Diolch yn fawr Rob, these are very useful

Good, handy list - thank you, @RobMorgan. One small thing - shouldn’t it be yn ogystal a?

Maybe @garethrking can clarify.

“as well as” is definitely yn ogystal â

(Entry 194 in Gareth’s new book  )

Fantastic list Rob, very useful. Could I offer some amendments too please? Apologies if these are wrong.

A dweud y gwir
Ar hynny
O ran
O ddydd i ddydd
Yn ogystal â
Ar un golwg (???)
Eli haul

Please correct me where necessary. :grinning:

“At a glance” is normally ar gip or ar gipolwg

I was thinking “at first glance” so “ar yr olwg gyntaf” but yours is better.

but yours is right for “at first glance”!

I have heard the following also, which may or may not be correct! Would someone be able to correct any mistakes in usage, context, or spelling, please?

With all due respect.
 phob dydelus barch.
Gyda phob dydelus barch.

With regard to this/that.
 golwg ar hyn/hynny.
Gyda golwg ar hyn/hynny.

Anyway.
Beth bynnag.

In relation to/with…
Mewn perthynas i/â.

In connection with the…
Mewn cysylltiad â’r/gyda’r…

Diolch!

With regard to this/that.
Along with those, you may also hear o rhan hyn/hynny, ynghylch hyn/hynny, ynglŷn â hyn/hynny

In relation to/with…
mewn perthynas â… (I’ve not come across using i instead of â here, but that’s not to say that no-one uses i), or you may hear mewn cysylltiad â…, or o ran…

In connection with the…
You can also use ynglŷn â’r…, ynghylch y/yr…, gyda golwg ar y/yr…,

As you can see, some of the phrases in Welsh match more than one of the phrases in English, but only because those English phrases have essentially the same meaning.

Beth bynnag (or, be’ bynnag’) is indeed the correct way to say “anyway”, however, you might also hear ta beth / ta be’ for this. And it’s also fairly common, in my experience, for people to say/write eniwe these days - which certainly makes some people shudder, but at least you know it’s out there!

Diolch o galon.

How about the first phrases?

With all due respect.

Gyda phob dydelus barch.

I understand that there are words and sayings that are ‘Welshified’ E.g eniwe.

I personally try to avoid these and try keep my Welsh language learning experience ‘pure’, but i in no way mean this in a hurtful or derogatory way.

I understand that that is just how speech goes.

Diolch yn fawr for your help. Wi’n ddiolchgar iawn am eich helpu!!

Yep, those are ok, although I’d say the gyda version feels more natural.
