Are you attending the Welsh National Eisteddfod this year in Cardiff Bay? Would you like to get involved by volunteering for a few hours during the week?
Here’s a link with all the information you will need -
My understanding is that Cardiff University Student’s Unions ‘great’ hall will be used for the gigs and there is talk of more gigs than the usual Weds to Sat evening extravanganzas. I don’t know about the Maes B campsite though.
Cool, they had a floating 5-a-side football pitch for the Champions and Runners Up league last year, so I’m imaginign that it will be tethered and accessible for the druidic rituals.
I imagine it’s enough of a headache to organise without having to be too innovative. and Candelas aren’t quite big enough for the Millennium Stadium just yet…
The Maes B gigs will be a bit weird this year with a lot of the usual big hitters (Yws, Swnami, Candelas etc) all seemingly on “off years”, however will be a great chance for another load of bands to sort of promote themselves up into that level (Yr Eira, Fleur Dy Lys, Adwaith, Chroma etc)
I’ve had a look at information about ticket sales and it’s going to be a bit different this year.
Tickets for concerts can be purchased through the Millennium Centre, and are available now. There is information about the concerts and booking online at Concerts.
Instead of the normal day tickets for the Maes, there will be a wristband system in operation. They can be bought ahead of time or on the day, but they’re not available until the 8th May. For more information, go to General Ticketing Information.
I see nothing mentioned here yet, and I’m sure it’s common knowledge now, but it was mentioned last week that Maes B will be held in the building that used to house the Doctor Who Experience this year!
This venue is also situated in Cardiff Bay, close to the other Eisteddfod events.
I’ve published a comprehensive update by Elfed Roberts, Chief Executive of the Eisteddfod here: https://parallel.cymru/?p=7912.
He talks through what will be where, how tickets are selling, and what will be available when. Only 100 days to go!
Some of us have stayed in the camping facilities provided by Cymdeithas yr Iaith in previous years. This year they are still providing some accommodation, but it’s a bit different - as everything is a bit different in this Eisteddfod!
The accommodation will be of a good standard and close to the centre of Cardiff, within walking distance to the Clwb Ifor Bach (where lots of gigs will be happening) and Maes yr Eisteddfod.
There are options to stay for 3 nights or 8 nights, and the accommodation will provide kitchen facilities as well as a bed. Bookings for the accommodation will only be accepted during this month, i.e. up to 31st May, and you can book through http://cymdeithas.cymru/llety
If you need more information, contact Owen Howell on: 02920486469 or de@cymdeithas.cymru
We’ve just booked a lovely place for the week … miles away from Cardiff but not too far to make a day of it. Will there be an SSiW event/gathering at some point during the week? As soon as we know my wife can start planning the week. She loves to plan.
To recap, the other tents such as the Maes D (called Shwmae Caerdydd this year) are all free and open to everyone; it will just be main evening activities and daytime competitions that require booking and a payment.
Just a note for anyone planning on using Maes C the family caravan and camping site. The Eisteddfod have just announced this news -
Due to restrictions imposed by the land owner, City of Cardiff Council, pets will not be allowed on the Caravan and Camping Site this year (with the exception of guide dogs)
Because of the location, this year’s Maes C has much stricter vehicle movement and parking restrictions. It may be an idea to check details on the Eisteddfod’s website beforehand. Also, please note that the Eisteddfod do not issue refunds for pitches, so best to take out some travel insurance just in case.
