Newport meet ups

Hi everybody
Tomorrow just as a one off the monthly meeting will be in Cafe Horton that’s near Rodney Parade.
Across the pedestrian bridge from Friars Walk.
Tara a bit.
Dave.

Shwmae!

The Casnewydd crew will be meeting at Cafe Horton near Rodney Parade/ the Millennium foot bridge on Saturday 10th + 17th August between 10am and 12pm. The cafe employs some Welsh-speaking staff and there’s a piano there if you fancy a sing-song haha.

I’ve attached the poster below (perhaps I was being a bit over-optimistic with the palm trees and sunglasses - according to Derek you’ll be better off with a raincoat!)

People of the port
The Saturday meeting will be in Hortons cafe near the footbridge between Friars walk and Rodney
Parade. Come along and enjoy the seagulls or sit inside.:grinning:

I’m on my way from Cardiff, but with 1 bus that didn’t show up and now a bus replacement for the train, I’m running very late

Hello everybody, my name is Jacob Gale and I am the new Swyddog datblygu cymunedol (community development officer) for Menter iaith Casnewydd. Just here to say hello and mention that this week’s Sgwrs Sadwrn (formerly siop & siarad) has been postponed due to the Gwyl Newydd festival in the Riverfront theatre. (21/09/2019)

Gwyl Newydd is back for it’s second year, its moved to a much bigger and better location for the event to grow. There’s loads of activities to take part in and things to watch, a great family day out with the opportunity to socialise and enjoy yourselves through the medium of welsh.

We are also looking for volunteers to help us carry out some little jobs throughout the festival 12-4y.p / pm. Why not volunteer for an hour and help promote the use of the welsh language in Newport? This is a great opportunity for welsh speakers and learners to help promote welsh in the community.

If you are interested please e-mail jacobgale@menteriaithcasnewydd.org and I can send you a volunteer form for you to fill in and send back. We will greatly appreciate any help possible. Look forward to seeing you there, Thank you.

Shwmae @TomCasnewydd @jacob-4

I’m just starting the course- are there any convo sessions coming up?

Diolch

Hi @jane-dorrian, @cuckoo, @rhian-hutchings, @llanddinol, @tom-boughtwood, @gemma-2 and all the Newportians here. I’m living and working in Newport now, and can update you with what is happening.
The weekly Saturday Sgwrs Sadwrn has re-started; 10:00-12:00 in Newport Central Library, third floor. I’ll be there this Saturday, and there is a rota of other people on the other Saturdays. Jacob is the main contact for this event.
Learn Welsh Gwent produce a monthly list of activities- https://www.facebook.com/CanolfanCymraegiOedolionGwentWelshForAdultsCentre/ or email Helen.Young@coleggwent.ac.uk to be added to the list.
I’ll paste in some of the upcoming events in below.

Sorry I didn’t notice this post before, but I’ll include a call for volunteers in next week’s newsletter. It goes out on Tuesdays.

Ffab, diolch Neil :slightly_smiling_face:

Come along to Saturday Chat on the third floor of the Newport Central Library from 10am-12pm. A joint partnership between Neil Rowlands, Welsh for Adults, Merched y Wawr and myself Jacob Gale. Each week varies slightly through a range of activities and discussion points. A friendly and informal environment that is perfect for learners and people with any level of Welsh.

Events in Newport and it’s surrounding areas!

Digwyddiadau yng Nghasnewydd a’r ardaloedd cyfagos!

A great event for learners as the quiz master asks the questions in Welsh and English which allows you to practice your understanding and helps you pick up new vocabulary. Very friendly atmosphere and many laughs guaranteed. Hope to see you there on the 6th of December.

Are you learning Welsh? Do you enjoy going for walks? Our monthly walking club varies in regards to locations and difficulties. Novembers walk is a relatively easy walk with some hills involved, an opportunity to practice in a friendly and informal atmosphere on the walk and during the coffee. Hope to see you there!

Prynhawd da!

Just a quick note to let all SSiW meet-up group organisers and coordinators, know that I have taken responsibility for the weekly email over from Deborah. So if you have any updated information about the group you’re responsible for, please let me know and I’ll ensure the correct info goes in the email. Diolch!

Shw’mae / Hello

I hope everyone is well. Just a reminder that your local Menter Iaith has lots of opportunities on offer and can keep you up to date with everything happening across Newport for Welsh speakers and learners. We’re currently searching for every group in the community that uses a bit of Welsh or operate fully using the Welsh language. Do you know of any we should be aware of?

Send us an email at post@menteriaithcasnewydd.org and we can go from there! Follow us on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Youtube at - MICasnewydd
