Many thanks @Deborah-SSi and all who helped to make it such a really enjoyable SSiW evening!

Thank you @Deborah-SSi for a brilliant party, all your hard work was well worth it. You deserve all the admiration you get. :star2:

A group of about 10 of us walked back to the town centre and found ourselves in a mojito cocktail bar (without cocktails) for another hour before heading back to our hotels. A very enjoyable evening from start to finish.

Put that together with meeting a few people (eventually) in a cafe in the afternoon and 7 of us seeing each other again over breakfast and you get a brilliant trip. Thanks to all to whom I spoke and sorry to anyone I didn’t get chance to. See you all next year for the big 10th.

What @gruntius said

I had a lovely time with old friends and new; was inspired by Mererid and by everyone; managed to put a whole sentence together in Spanish while talking with @aran (several actually); got a pile of tips on what to read yn y Gymraeg and on lots of other languagey things; and would like to do it all again next weekend, please.

Diolch o galon i @Deborah-SSi ac i bawb involved in the organisation!

I had a great time - it was lovely to catch up with friends, recognise some familiar faces from online in real life and meet lots of lovely new people!

As one of the Mohito 10 I was very impressed by Aran’s persuasive powers, as the bar staff went from “Sorry we’re closing,” to “Well maybe we could let you have some beer or wine, but definitely no ice,” to “Well maybe some ice for a g&t but no cocktails,” to “Oh go on then we’ll make you a mohito”. I’m not sure what he said but I assume it was along the lines of “If you don’t make me a mohito right now I will never love anyone ever again”.

He then turned the full force of his will on anyone expressing doubt that they weren’t already an absolutely competent Welsh speaker. It was the perfect end to an inspiring evening.

Thanks so much to Dee and all the organisers. Roll on next year!

A fantastic and inspirational evening, and as Kate says, great to put faces to names.

Thank you all who were involved in the organisation - a seamless operation!

Hope to see you all again next year

Echoing what everyone else has said, what a fantastic party! And great pre- and after-bits with lovely people. Thanks to everyone involed in organising, and I’m sorry I didn’t get round to thanking you in person for all your hard work, @Deborah-SSi. Everything was spot on.

P.S. I am now officially declaring myself a Welsh speaker!

I can’t quite decide whether the Mohito 10 are a bunch of superheroes or a group of freedom fighters on the run from the law. Either way, I’m in!

… and you won’t get anyone disagreeing.

Have you tried The Warren, Mansel Steeet? They have a Welsh speaker on their staff; she was very encouraging to me as I tried out my “Dw i’n dysgu Cymraeg” spiel over Sunday Brunch, 3rd June.

Party FAB. Great to see everyone… especially @aran as I haven’t seen him since the 5 day intensive just over a year ago. And Kate and Dee and Mackey and Iestyn and Kat and the little Iestyns and little Kats and and
Thank you. Only shame was that I was too tired to stay and help make the 10 an 11

Thanks to all of you for coming and making it such a great night! I would have liked more time to spend with each of you, but I was shattered by the end.

And it was very much a team effort for everything to come together - @Iestyn and Cat helping with the organising, Iestyn doing a great job of MC’ing the whole evening, and @CatrinLliarJones producing a gorgeous cake!

Diolch o galon @Deborah-SSi am dy holl waith caled - roedd yn llwyddiant ysgubol!

It’s always a huge delight to see the people we see, and a huge frustration that we never manage to see everyone - I was inching in your direction several times, @neilrowlands, and never actually made it! - we really must figure out a better way (one of these years) to get to meet everyone. Maybe it’s just about needing more time…

So huge thanks to the Mojito 10 for managing to extract some extra hours - that neither of us knew existed - from somewhere in the middle of the night…

Very sorry indeed not to see @HuwJones or @Nicky and @LaraRobs there - very glad to hear that the ‘Invisible Nicky’ syndrome wasn’t anything more drastic - tan tro nesaf!

Many many thanks to Dee for organising, Catrin for cake, Iestyn for leading the singing, the kind folks who pretended to be interested when talking to me, the Mojito 10, and and and - yes everyone. Fabulous night.

I felt like we had a whole holiday condensed into being away from home less than 24 hours

Diolch Pawb,

Already looking forward to travelling north next year.
Well done and a huge thanks to all the organisers and also to Meredid for her kind and helpful words of encouragement. Wish I’d had time to move to a few more tables, maybe next time.
Great to catch up with @johndray again and diolch @margaretnock for the lift back to town.

Mererid Hopwood is a brilliant speaker, and she was an excellent choice for SSiW as she’s so knowledgeable about languages (and encouraging about making mistakes!). The party was lovely and it was a great opportunity to meet fellow SSiWers (including John and Glenda).

I wondered why Mojito was open so late!

Hear! Hear! re the comments so far and I would like to add a mention for Jean-Francois from Quebec whom I was pleased to meet for a fun couple of hours at Pantri Blakeman on Saturday morning as well as at the party. Fair play to him for single handedly manoeuvring a sizeable group of 17/18 year olds around the UK . Among the highlights at the café were a communal rendition of Calon Lân led by all the staff and, J-F’s correction of the introduction of his group : “We’re not from Canada, we’re from Quebec” .

Yes, I have to admit I rather enjoyed having his company to myself for a really great day in St Fagans on Friday, and I was interested to hear him referring to “going to Canada” from Quebec!

Well what a fabulous evening!!!

My warmest thanks to Dee for taking the reigns this year and putting in hours of sometimes quite stressful organising in order to provide us with a wonderful SSiW party!!!

Diolch o waelod calon Dee, ti yn seren aur! :star2: :star2: :star2:

It was such an enjoyable evening and thanks to Dee I had the great pleasure of seeing it all from a completely new angle. I got to relax, forget about the organising and invest in some time socialising with old friends and new faces - I thoroughly enjoyed myself.

It was also a great privilege to be part of The Mojito 10 - not as dangerous as the Marvel Avengers but much cooler than The Three Amigos - shame we only had one mojito between us though.

Diolch to everyone who made the effort to be there. Cwtshis to those who missed out because of illness or unexpected events. Diolch to those who spent time chatting to me and apologies to those I missed.

I shall try and post a link to some photos later.

In other news, the organising for next year’s 10th birthday party has begun!!!
