Translation of a poem for my children

Prynhawn da pawb. I have a favour (MAWR MAWR) to ask anyone who is willing to help.
I would really like to translate the poem ‘The Garden Year’ into Welsh as my children know it off by heart in English (from my reading it so often) and I would love them to do the same in Welsh. It also helps me learn new words! Diolch yn fawr iawn! Here it is for anyone up for the challenge …

January brings the snow,
Makes our feet and fingers glow.

February brings the rain,
Thaws the frozen lake again.

March brings breezes, loud and shrill,
To stir the dancing daffodil.

April brings the primrose sweet,
Scatters daisies at our feet.

May brings flocks of pretty lambs
Skipping by their fleecy dams.

June brings tulips, lilies, roses,
Fills the children’s hands with posies.

Hot July brings cooling showers,
Apricots, and gillyflowers.

August brings the sheaves of corn,
Then the harvest home is borne.

Warm September brings the fruit;
Sportsmen then begin to shoot.

Fresh October brings the pheasant;
Then to gather nuts is pleasant.

Dull November brings the blast;
Then the leaves are whirling fast.

Chill December brings the sleet,
Blazing fire, and Christmas treat.

Hi @KarenL-B! What a beautiful little poem for your children to have learnt. :heart: I, myself am no poet, but if I find the time I would be happy to give it a go for you. It’s something I may enjoy doing to relax. I’ll get back to you soon… :wink:

Diolch yn fawr iawn Catrin! (We are in Trefynwy, De Cymru) I am at the end of level one and have some Welsh from my school days, but I would really appreciate an experts help. I could manage the months of the year and the odd word but I would be worried about the accuracy. My daughters are very used to me reading them poetry; my 8 year old recites ‘Leisure’ to anyone who will listen. :rofl:

Hi @KarenL-B!

Ok, here goes. It’s not an exact translation, because it didn’t always work. But I’ve tried to capture the nature of each month as best I can. I hope this works for you. :wink:

Yn Ionawr daw ddisglair eira,
i ddeffro’r cosi yn ein bodia.

Chwefror daw a chynnes law,
i ddadmer rhew a’i hel o draw.

Daw Mawrth ac awel fel aderyn,
i chwarae ymysg y cennin penfelyn.

O bridd Ebrill daw melys friallu,
a llygad y dydd fel sêr yn llewyrchu.

Daw fis Mai a chymylau o ŵyn,
yn prancio’n llon o lwyn i lwyn.

Gan Fehefin daw rhosod, tiwlipau a lilïau diri,
i lenwi’n gerddi a’n calonogi.

O wres Gorffennaf daw ambell gawod,
Bricyll euraidd, a ffarwel y gog.

Daw fis Awst ac ysgubau corn melyn,
a chynhaeaf arall ar ei gychwyn.

O lwyni Medi daw ffrwythau melys,
cwmwl, glaw a gwres yr enfys.

Hydref daw a chochni dail, cnydau cnau,
a gaeafgwsg ambell anifail.

Stormydd Tachwedd daw a brigau llwm,
hwyrnos ddu a thân llawn bwrlwm.

Daw eirlaw Rhagfyr a thrwynau coch,
a’r annwyl Siôn Corn yn gweiddi’n groch.

Bendigedig! Dwi’n hapus iawn. Catrin, you are very kind to take the time to do this for me. Diolch yn fawr iawn! :blush:

You’re welcome, I quite enjoyed it to be honest, nothing like a bit of creative writing to feed the soul. I can’t 100% guarantee the correctness of my grammar and form though. :wink:
