Do we start to use the informal you later on? My Spanish friend thinks I have suddenly become more formal. Here in Murcia “usted” rarely seems to be used.

Yes, tú gets introduced in Level 2 of the course, but no harm you learning from speaking with your friends and using it now with them. It will give you a head start
